Member-Spotlight

Healthy Lives member Shelly F. has had a lifelong awareness of her weight, but it wasn’t until after the age of 40 that she realized she needed to make some changes.

“Life is busy and things often take priority over exercise and eating healthy. That kind of behavior catches up with you as you get older,” said Shelly.

She started working with a health coach to adopt healthier habits and began practicing the Healthy Lives Fundamentals: eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, controlling her portions, eating low-fat and low-calorie foods most of the time, and exercising a minimum of 30 minutes a day for at least five days a week.

“I don’t think I would be as successful without my health coach,” said Shelly. “She continued to reinforce the Healthy Lives Fundamentals until they came naturally to me.”

Her consistency on applying the Fundamentals to her life for the last two years has helped her lose and maintain a 30 pound weight loss.

Shelly’s Top Tips for Success:

  1. Consistency. This is not a diet; it is a lifestyle you have to do every day.
  2. Planning. There’s no excuse not to be prepared in every situation. If you have a meeting, don’t be afraid to ask for healthier choices or bring your own food. Plan time to exercise every day with no excuses. Shelly fits in a half hour to an hour on her glider every day, no matter how busy her day may be.
  3. Healthy Lives Fundamentals. Get back to the basics and work the Fundamentals for long term success.
