The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is encouraging everyone to “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle” with informed food choices throughout the year. The academy encourages you to adopt a healthy lifestyle that is focused on eating fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Where do you start? Healthy Lives Certified Health Coach Claudia Cormier, RDN, says you have to get back to the basic fundamental truth about maintaining a healthy weight so that you can make smart decisions that will produce results.

Successful weight management is always about calories. To lose weight, you need to decrease calories and to keep weight off, you need to learn to live at a lower calorie lifestyle.

Follow these tips to “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle” and improve your health:

  1. Calculate your maintenance calories. Use the formula to the right to help you make better decisions when you have calorie information.
  2. Use the calorie equation. At the end of the day, our maintenance calories depend on the food we eat and the exercise we do.

3. Learn ways to lower calories. Use the ideas from the links below to give you strategies to lower the calories you consume to help you maintain a healthy weight.
