Healthy Lives member David M.’s journey began in March 2012, when he started working at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Previously, he had traveled for work, regularly eating meals from fast food and buffet restaurants and then returning to his hotel room. He knew he needed to drop a few pounds, but thought he was in good health.
After completing his screening during his first week at St. Dominic, David learned just how high his blood pressure was, along with his other health-risk numbers.
“If I hadn’t started working at St. Dominic, it may have been too late by the time I ever went to the doctor on my own,” said David.
The Healthy Lives programs helped him to take a look at what and how much he was eating and gave him strategies to adopt healthier eating habits. He also joined a gym and made exercise a regular part of his daily routine.
By staying committed and taking it one day at a time, David lost a total of 31 pounds in 2015. His goal for 2016 is to lose 50 more pounds.
“Healthy Lives is the program that motivated me to accomplish what I wanted to do so many times before,” said David.
